Melissa is exceptional in her training work and her understanding of dog behaviors. My pup is very smart and high energy, and a standardized approach just wouldn’t have given us the success we have had with Melissa. She took the time to speak with me and fully understand my reasons for seeking her help and goals for each session. She targeted the root causes that were contributing to challenges for command with my dog and patiently but firmly gave instruction on how to correct my actions to achieve better results with obedience. She also met us in real world settings for training instead of an overly-controlled environment, which made it more straightforward to translate training methods to everyday life outside of our sessions. I would trust Melissa with any problem. Nothing phased her, and I left each visit feeling more confident about continuing the work and strengthening my relationship with my pal. Would hands down recommend this trainer to anyone! We brought in our male German Shepherd with zero training and serious concerns about aggression and behavior. The dog that came home is not the same dog we dropped off — the transformation is truly amazing to see. This is more than just training; it’s an art, and Melissa and her company genuinely excel at it. From basic commands to addressing major behavioral issues, everything was corrected. She even helped us transition him back to proper dog food. No matter which option you choose, including their board-and-train program, you’re not just given a dog back — you’re given tools, reading materials, and in-home follow-up services to make sure the progress continues. I was pretty skeptical at first, but results never lie, and wow did we get results. We were initially worried about the cost, but the pricing options and payment plans made this affordable and realistic for our family and income. The value far exceeded what we expected. We did training for 3 of our dogs ages 5, 2, and 10 months. Melissa came out to do an evaluation and listened to our hopes of what we wanted to achieve with training. Well those hopes were exceeded! We did the 10 training package with e-collars. She really simplified training and made it easy to understand. Any questions that came up she was available to answer. Could not recommend this service enough! We have a Great Pyrenees/german shepherd mix that was about 2.5 years old. He struggled with reactivity issues (jumping/barking at strangers, pulling on walks). We were convinced that maybe we were too late to the training game due to his age and reactivity. We decided to send him away for 4 weeks of boarding and training, meeting with Melissa (locally in Lexington) once each of those weeks to go over his training. To say I am beyond impressed at his progress is an understatement. She gave us truly usable tools and tactics to curb his reactivity and he has truly become a whole new dog. We got progress updates and videos regularly and were trained ourselves on how to best work with our dog. I could not recommend this service enough! We needed help with our dog-reactive dog. Melissa taught us how to respond to bad behavior and helped us to recognize ways that we were contributing to the problem. Our sessions were never rushed, she checked in often between sessions, and she always took time to answer questions and troubleshoot situations. It's been a wonderful experience with Melissa, in the board and train program. She teaches our dogs how to be more confident and make good decisions. She also teaches their humans how to help them make good decisions. My Max used to pull on leash when on walks. After he was with Melissa he walks with me, instead of pulling me. She also taught him to place. I can now have family and friends over that Max does know. I tell him to place and he stays in that spot. They can walk by him and he doesn't move. I can also tell him to place while taking a shower or doing things around the house and he stays in that spot until he is released. I'm still learning and Max is too but we both grow more confident and comfortable with each other, everyday. We both have Melissa to thank for all that she has done and continues to do. I sent my Belgian Malinois to Blue County K9 for the 4 week board and train. What they did in that time frame was amazing. My pup would jump and would bite (not hard) at our arms to welcome us any time we walked through the door. She was a nightmare to get in the crate when we would leave and forget about a calm outing to the store. That all changed after she spent some time with Melissa. I almost didn't recognize our dog at the first training visit. I highly recommend Blu County K9 for your dog training needs. I had never done private lessons or considered board and train but this dog had me at my wits end.  I did research and found Melissa and Blue Co K-9. I felt confident my pup was in good hands while he in training and received regular updates and videos.  My pup always seemed really happy ! He came home with valuable knowledge, and lessons for out family so we are able to communicate effectively with Storm to carry out his training cues and transition to home life. Blue County K9 has truly been a life saver for us! Our girl suffers from reactivity issues and has a pretty high prey drive. We were nervous she wouldn’t do well in training due to being an older dog. She took to Melissa and her training right away! The differences we’ve seen since doing a board & train with Blue County K9 have been nothing short of amazing! While she will always be reactive and have a prey drive, Melissa has given us the training & tools to manage her behavior. Remi is now able to do things we never thought would be possible.
